Banana culture and tradition

Banana culture goes far beyond the field: it lives in the trades, in the hands and in the memory of those who made this fruit a way of life. Each task had its name and its people: removing the spent flowers (desflorillado) and the surplus shoots (deshijado) to guide the plant, the propping-up (apuntalado) to bear the weight of the bunch, the washing —largely women's work— and the hauling to the loading point.

Whole generations grew up to the rhythm of the banana grove, and even today the families of Tazacorte keep that knowledge as part of their identity. Here the banana is a symbol of collective effort and local pride: a heritage passed on through gesture and story as much as through the farm itself.
